Singapore Art Week (SAW) returns with its 13th edition from 17 to 26 January 2025!

This edition will present an array of more than 100 art events by the local and international visual arts community.

The ten-day celebration of art displays and installations that will once again showcase two dynamic art platforms, ART SG and S.E.A. Focus; a dynamic range of programmes and art experiences that will present new ways of inviting visitors to explore their personal connection to the environment; as well as a vibrant Light to Night in the Civic District.

GILLMAN BARRACKS

Ames Yavuz: a gesture, a room, a memory

A gesture, a room, a memory is a conversation between contemporary painters who reflect on the ordinary, the routine, and the small revelations of the moments in-between. Scenes which looks perfectly mundane are re-assessed to reveal intimate moments of longing, self-reflections, and the intrusive thoughts that enter the personal spaces we inhabit.

FOST Gallery: A CUBE IS A CUBE IS A CUBE by Grace Tan

Geometry serves as a core principle in the interdisciplinary work of artist Grace Tan. In her latest exhibition, Tan delves the dynamic nature of dimensionality through the cube—a three-dimensional form bounded by six congruent square faces.

Mizuma Gallery: The Old Soul | The New Universe by Ari Bayuaji

The Old Soul | The New Universe, a solo exhibition by Ari Bayuaji, curated by Hermanto Soerjanto, showcases the latest works of the artist, including his captivating woven textiles and mixed media installations. These pieces are primarily created using found and ready-made materials.

Ota Fine Arts: In Dialogue

Ota Fine Arts Singapore presents In Dialogue, featuring Rina Banerjee, Maria Farrar, Mannat Gandotra, Hilmi Johandi, Zai Kuning, Yayoi Kusama, Atreyu Moniaga, and Guo-Liang Tan. Spanning from drawing and painting to sculpture, the works exhibited interact with one another within the gallery, showcasing the spectrum of expressions of contemporary art today.

Richard Koh Fine Art: The Squares by Tun Win Aung and Wah Nu

The Squares marks the first solo exhibition by Burmese duo, Tun Win Aung and Wah Nu, at Richard Koh Fine Art in Singapore. The exhibition features the latest series from their ongoing Thousand Pieces of White project, that reflects their three decades of personal experience. This series includes abstract paintings made from censored old Burmese magazines. Curated by Louis Ho, The Squares provides a micro-history of a specific period in Myanmar, exploring the unexpected, material residue of that era.

Sundaram Tagore Gallery: Disobedient Bodies: Reclaiming Her

This exhibition features contemporary works by eight women artists from East and Southeast Asia who challenged the dominant patriarchal narratives and examine ideas of body objectification in relation to female identity. Curated by independent curator Loredana Pazzini-Paracciani, the show features paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, video and installations. The artists include Nadiah Bamadhaj, Peihang Benoit, Maria Madeira, Le Hien Minh, Soe Yu Nwe , Charmaine Poh, Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook and Pannaphan Yodmanee.

ShanghART Singapore: The Divine in the Trash Stratum by Robert Zhao

The Divine in the Trash Stratum explores the hidden beauty in discarded fragments. This series also draws on the artist’s long-term observation of a tree in a forest, juxtaposing the enduring presence of nature with the transient nature of these fragments. Through the documentation of these remnants and spaces, the work reflects on our choices of preservation and neglect, as well as how time reshapes what is left behind.

The Columns Gallery: La Vie en Strass by Shourouk Rhaiem

La Vie en Strass by Shourouk Rhaiem transforms everyday items, such as coffee cans and dish soap bottles, into dazzling sculptures with Swarovski crystals and other materials. These pieces carry deep personal significance, symbolizing memories and Rhaiem's longing for familial harmony, with the Ricoré coffee can as a central motif representing her childhood. The exhibition emphasizes the intersection of personal history and collective memory, inviting viewers to view the mundane as something extraordinary and meaningful.

Yeo Workshop: krØmæ§piritⱫ by Fyerool Darma

Yeo Workshop presents krØmæ§piritⱫ an exhibition of new works by Fyerool Darma, where industrial debris meets the digital pulse of AI. Found materials and stock images extracted from the commercial ether and combined with generative visuals, created by algorithms and woven into sonar vibrations. These elements come together to form vivid geometric forms, echoing decay and birth of new matter. They drift through landscapes both organic and artificial, bending traditional myths into unstable, evolving narratives. krØmæ§piritⱫ reflects the ephemeral nature of creation shaped by organic decay & technological rhythms.

TANJONG PAGAR DISTRIPARK

S.E.A. Focus 2025

S.E.A. Focus is a premier platform and art market hub dedicated to showcasing Southeast Asian contemporary art. A meeting point for artistic vision and vigour, it brings together a fine curation of established and emerging artistic talents from the region and provides a platform that propels diverse cultural exchanges and dialogue about Southeast Asian art. In its seventh edition, S.E.A. Focus 2025 examines the transformative shifts between Modern and Contemporary Art in Southeast Asia, exploring the complexities of cultural relativism within a multi-layered context.

Alongside the curated exhibition by John Tung at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, the event offers a rich array of experiences for art lovers—from seasoned collectors to curious enthusiasts. Highlights include a curated film screening program, engaging art talks with industry thought leaders, and exclusive access to private art spaces.

Gajah Gallery: Big Bang: Myth of Origins

Origins have endlessly enthralled humankind. Wrapped in story or shrouded in myth, questions about origination and beginnings spark the imagination and push the thinking mind in the human endeavour to make sense of identity, belonging and our place in the universe. Bringing together artists from Singapore, Southeast Asia and Asia, this exhibition at Gajah Gallery reflects on the eternal questions of beginning(s), being and becoming – in art and as the makers of art.

Whitestone Gallery Singapore: GUTAI: Beyond the Canvas

Gutai Art Movement was an Avant-Garde collective that sought to break traditional art forms and experiment with techniques. Featuring iconic works from Tsuyoshi Maekawa, Shuji Mukai, Takesada Matsutani, and Yuko Nasaka, this exhibition consists of innovative techniques and social themes ingrained into the Gutai movement where viewers will be able to encounter the works of these artists who navigated the complexities of contemporary life in changing Japan.

New Art Museum Singapore: Alternate Reality

Alternate Reality curated by Nim Niyomsin involves 8 artists in the regions of Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. This exciting showcase is centered around different perceptions of reality. Covering various topics such as historical and cultural aspects of collective memories, alternative worlds which manifest through various environments, a shift in people’s senses and finally a constructed approach to tackle such topics of interest. Alternate Reality attempts to foster a deeper understanding of the themes we face in our daily lives.

Instinc: Beyond 无边

Beyond 无边 is a two-person exhibition that brings the work of Boo Sze Yang and Yeo Shih Yun together for the first time, creating a novel conversation between two artists whose work speaks to the antique – even ancient – past as well as to this metamodern moment in contemporary art.

The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) presents three exhibitions:

No Patents on Ideas, Bangkok-based artist Pratchaya Phinthong’s first solo show in Singapore, explores the ideas of self-determination and objects as avatars of chance, the reflected his two-decade-long practice of conceptual thinking and research.

Mansau-Ansau, inspired by the Dusun and Kadazan languages of Sabah, follows Yee I-Lann's two-decade journey of discovery and creation, reimagining domains of knowledge and the forms and dynamic of power.

Seeing Forest, presented by Robert Zhao Renhui at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024), delves into his long-term research on Singapore's secondary forests, regrown ecosystems from deforested land due to human intervention.

Hailed by many as the beginning of a new chapter for the art scene in Singapore and Southeast Asia, the highly anticipated third edition of ART SG will feature an outstanding line-up of 106 of the world's leading galleries, showcasing the best in contemporary art practice from across Asia and around the world. As Southeast Asia's leading international art fair, ART SG 2025 will spotlight exceptional contemporary art through three distinct gallery sectors – GALLERIES, FOCUS, and FUTURES – alongside dynamic large-scale installations, thought-provoking talks, and a film programme in collaboration with Singapore’s ArtScience Museum.

Presented by Founding and Lead Partner UBS, ART SG will return to Marina Bay Sands from 17 to 19 January 2025, co-timed with Singapore Art Week (17 - 26 January 2025) – the city’s annual celebration of the visual arts. ArtScience Museum: Altered States: Experiments in Moving Image

Altered States: Experiments in Moving Image is an exhibition exploring material interventions in film that blur the lines between art, science and experimental cinema. The exhibition features a select group of local and international artists and filmmakers who push the boundaries of what moving image can be by employing everyday materials, cameraless techniques, chemical and ecological processes in their experimental filmmaking practices.

STPI presents Constellations, the second residency exhibition by leading Singaporean artist, Suzann Victor. The exhibition comprises over 20 new artworks from her latest collaboration with the Creative Workshop, inviting viewers to explore the nuanced possibilities of printmaking through light and shadow, and to create their own secondary light-prints on the gallery walls.

New Bahru: Now Now 2025

New Bahru presents, Now Now, a public art showcase featuring 6 photographic works from rising and established Singapore-based creatives. Presented as striking billboards, these amplified images form a bold yet intimate tapestry of fossilised moments, placed around the development.

In this edition, Lavender Chang, Jovian Lim, Sean Lee, KHOOGJ, Akai Chew and Liu Liling, share their diverse practices across Photography, Architecture and Fine Arts to present a zeitgeist lens on Singapore’s here and now.

Art Outreach Singapore: The Pierre Lorinet Collection: Space

This third exhibition from The Pierre Lorinet Collection delves into the theme of "Space," referencing the 8,000 sq. ft. warehouse at New Bahru, the vibrant venue for this year’s showcase. Featuring works by artists like Ugo Rondinone, Liz Deschenes, Theaster Gates, and Tracey Emin, the exhibition explores various interpretations of space—cosmic, earthly, emotional, and structural.

The Utopia of Rules

Asset-based Democracies explores the idea to the international art world that framing artworks as assets that generate value and shape collective futures. In this context, the value of art is tied to its potential financial worth, influencing how social relationships and futures are imagined in the art sphere.

Paperwork and Pan-Shamanism brings artists together who reimagine historical archives and personal histories through unreliable narrators and autofiction. The discussion is centered around how these artistic practices intervene in grand narratives, offering fictional and mythical frameworks to catalyze collective action and power.

Objectifs Centre for Photography and Film: Hope you are keeping well!

Hope you are keeping well! reflects on the influence of Singapore’s national productivity agenda on artistic labour. The project includes both an exhibition and a series of informal gatherings, using curatorial practices of care to uncover and reflect on the often-invisible efforts involved in artistic production. Transforming Objectifs' Chapel Gallery into a communal, psychological artists’ studio, the exhibition brings together four propositions on care by artists Hu Rui, Genevieve Leong, Huijun Lu, and Arabelle Zhuang.

National Gallery Singapore: Light to Night Singapore 2025

Light to Night Singapore makes its annual return from 17 January to 6 February 2025, illuminating the Civic District with captivating light projections, art installations and engaging programmes. This year’s theme “Do You See Me?”, invites audiences of all ages to uncover new perspectives of how we see ourselves and others, sparking inspiration to the future. The festival will feature exciting programmes and artworks by local artists such as Cultural Medallion recipients Chng Seok Tin, Goh Beng Kwan and Han Sai Por.

The Culture Story: The Second Sex

The Second Sex is inspired by Simone de Beauvoir’s classic book and will feature over 20 artworks by 16 Singaporean and international female artists. These works were collected over the last ten years by Mr. Chong Huai Seng and Ms Ning Chong, the co-founders of The Culture Story.

Cuturi Gallery: Tea Time by Gaël Davrinche

Critical Craft Collective: From Palais to Pulau: Rethinking ‘home’ and ‘oddities’

The Critical Craft Collective’s From Palais to Pulau reinterprets Mrs. Beeton’s domestic guide through a Southeast Asian perspective, uncovering narratives of invisible labour, gender roles, and colonial legacies. The Private Museum: Of Dreams and Contemplation: I Am All but a Story – Selections from the Collection of Richard Koh

Appetite: Shapeshifters

A collaboration between Appetite and Sullivan+Strumpf for Singapore Art Week, Shapeshifters brings a selection of works from the gallery’s roster of artists that centre on notions of fluidity and hybridity. Presenting works across different mediums and practices, this dynamic exhibition will amplify a cross-cultural dialogue between Australia and Singapore, and celebrate diverse modes of creative expression.

Tang Contemporary Art Singapore: Web of Being: The Living Network

Tang Contemporary Art Singapore presents Web of Being: The Living Network, a group exhibition that explores the profound interconnectedness of all life forms—from microscopic organisms to the cosmic universe—through the works of internationally acclaimed artists: Qin Qi, Cai Lei, Xu Hongxiang, Woo Kukwon, Guillermo Lorca, Rodel Tapaya, Jason Martin, and Jonas Hödicke.

National Gallery Singapore: Singapore Art Week Forum 2025: Art Publics

The Singapore Art Week Forum 2025 is organised by the National Arts Council, National Gallery Singapore and Singapore Art Museum, supported by the Singapore Tourism Board. The Forum, themed Art Publics, gathers international artists, curators, and museum and urban practitioners to rethink art’s relation to the public. A full-day event, it will feature a keynote lecture and two panel discussions.

Tanoto Art Foundation: Soul Song of a New Organisation: Symposium 2025

In celebration of the launch of the Tanoto Art Foundation, this one-day symposium brings together a distinguished group of international speakers to explore the questions: “how to create and nurture an organisation with a soul.”

Comprising artists, art historians, curators, and institution builders, the minds gathered here each contribute to the creation of this soul song in their unique ways. We embark on this journey of world-making with conviviality and hope. Joan Kee, scholar and art historian, delivers the keynote presentation. Featured speakers include Joselina Cruz, Paulo Miyada, Manuela Moscoso, Gala Porras-Kim, and Arin Rungjang. A roundtable discussion will each wrap up the morning and afternoon presentations, and the day will be punctuated with performances by artist Melati Suryodarmo and Chang Yuchen.

The program is curated by Tanoto Art Foundation’s Artistic Director Xiaoyu Weng.
