About the art

Artist statement
This work reflects on the otherworldly and, at times, the hallucinatory experience of ossified sea structures or relics. Through a series that expands on Willner's ongoing practice of sculptural drawing and linear forms, this ceramic work imagines coral-like architecture as standing in for limbs, the body, time and memory.

Artist profile
Bettina Willner
Hometown: Melbourne
Based in: Melbourne
Bettina Willner's practice considers the connection between material, form, nature, architecture and memory within contemporary ceramics. Organic structures, textural and goldene glazes are characteristics of her sculptural pieces, and, in combination, produce objects that sit between sculpture, painting and drawing.
