Life force, futuristic dynamism, ancestral power. With a cylindrical base and an interchangeable tip aimed at the ground or the sky, Karen Chekerdjian’s creation never belies its marble support. Totem is unique and trine, the divine inspiration of a design object.
TOTEM is not a work of design, but a search for balance between fullness and emptiness, between heaviness and lightness. Intuition leads to desire, which generates an idea. The idea evaporates, but the object endures. TOTEM remains essential. Three simple geometric shapes, stacked in varying sequences, like bricks. Playing the game recalls the effortless act towards spiritual harmony, between functionality and futility, between form and the absence of form.
