Artist statement
The Egg Chair of Concrete, designed by Solmaz Fooladi, draws inspiration from the iconic EGG Chair by Arne Jacobsen. It is a stunning reinterpretation of the classic designs of the modernist era with an obvious urban twist. Constructed with concrete, rebar, and metal plates, the concrete chair’s composition brings to light the unique qualities of industrial materials and repurposes the raw materials to create a beautiful and contemporary chair. Its unique shape is crowned with a high rebar collar. Despite the use of unconventional materials, the concrete chair has an incredibly ergonomic and comfortable seat. We used a lightweight concrete mix to reduce the weight and mounted the сhair on casters to improve its mobility. The neutral color of the chair also makes this a versatile option for a wide variety of interior styles and projects. It could also be well integrated into any outdoor decor.
