Artist statement
The JAMAKHAN Line rug is inspired by Bhavani ‘Jamakkalams’, the colourful, graphic and often oversized floor-coverings used in homes and at weddings and public events in and around the region of Tamil Nadu in southern India. Working with textile-designer Sagarika Sundaram our contemporary take on the original and iconic textile features a striking pattern of horizontal lines of varying widths. Hand-woven in the small town of Bhavani in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu, the Line Rug is available in a single colour combination: navy blue and ivory.
