Joel Escalona is a multi-talented artist and designer who blends technology, art, and philosophy in his work. With a background in industrial design and experience in teaching, creative direction, and business consulting, he has a unique perspective on creating innovative products and designs.
Joel has worked with global brands such as Design Within Reach, Roche Bobois, Opinion Ciatti, BD Barcelona, Tane, Pirwi, Nouvel to develop and launch cutting-edge products. He has also been the creative director at BREUER and Taller Maya, where he designed a wide range of products and established creative pillars for each business.
In addition to running his own design and art practice, Joel leads NONO, a design brand that specializes in custom-made furniture, and is a managing partner at ACHACH, an agency that focuses on portrait, product, and interior photography.
As a design professor at CENTRO and Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico City, Joel is committed to sharing his professional knowledge and experience with his students. He is also a frequent speaker in the creative community, discussing all aspects of design.
Joel's work has been showcased at events such as Art Basel in Switzerland, ICFF in New York, Maison & Objet in Paris, Salone Internazionale del Mobile Di Milano, and ZONAMACO in Mexico, among others. His designs have also been featured in museums and exhibitions, as well as in prestigious design publications and books around the world, providing significant editorial value for his clients and collaborators.
What inspires you?
Joel finds inspiration in the present. His work is a clear reflection of the events and culture surrounding him: his furniture is designed with contemporary spaces and people in mind, and his personal editions project is an intimate reflection of how his mind works.
