Ruda Studio
Born: 2017
Hometown: Odesa, Ukraine
Based in: Odesa, Ukraine
Design brand RUDA Studio was founded in 2017 by Alexandra Rudenko and Yuriy Vovnyanko. The main focus
of the studio — space design and the creation of unique household items. In the space, the studio seeks to make each project individual and special, focusing on feelings, custom items, and the combination of the historical and the modern.
The created objects are inspired by natural materials and antique artisan techniques. Each product has its function, but more resembles an object of art that touches the soul and pushes for reflection and rethinking of our cultural heritage. In their works, the designers of the studio restore the knowledge of Ukrainian folklore and actualize socially-important environmental topics, conservation of natural resources of the Earth, and human interaction with nature.
In the studio, objects are created from local materials - brass, copper, clay, straw, algae, trees, and stone.
Ruda Studio In The Studio
The most difficult challenge is to start working in historically forgotten technology or creating new materials. You have to go blindly, by touch, experimenting with new techniques and materials. Usually, this search requires a lot of patience and time. Well, teamwork. Going by feel alone is longer and harder when there is a team of like-minded people - everything can be handled.

Describe your creative process.
My creative process starts with formulating an idea. I Art is always a dialogue between the creator and the viewer, and it is important to initially formulate your message. When an idea is formulated (its importance, its impact, what it will improve, or why this particular idea is important now), it is rooted in my head. This is not an obsession, but more like background music. It does not interfere with my daily activities, but at the same time you sharpen your attention and think about how something can be applied to this new idea.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Timeless, Collectible, Artisan
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
