The Queen of Deer
2019
Digital print
Description: The chronicle of “Glass Palace” by Amitav Ghosh refers to various folklore and oral-histories in Burma such as myths of supernatural and traditional characters. The first kingdom of Burma called the “Dagaung” Period had a powerful king called “Dudtaboung.” He was descended from the half deer and half human species. According to the story, a man from the palace moved to the forest and turned to monkhood. One day a female deer drank his urine and became pregnant, giving birth to a beautiful girl called "Bedayi". She became the queen and gave birth to King Dudtaboung. I enjoy these folk stories and how people believed in the relations between humans, animals and environment. These works attempt to create realities inspired from folktales that inspire what philosophies were dominant and consider reality again.
