Artist statement
Some places have a soul, an extra spark.
After meandering up the mountain road, leaving the dramatic valley of Rjukan below, the plateau unfolds with Gaustatoppen rising above.
Following several days of rain, a sunny autumn day brought me to Djupetjønn lake. After one hour of hiking uphill, I finally arrived at this beautiful natural spot. It was not my first time there since I explored the surrounding mountains, almost daily, for ten months. The weather conditions were optimal that afternoon: no wind, warm sunny light.
This photograph is part of Gausta in Seasons: a project that documented this world-class mountain Norwegian destination from December 2019 to September 2020.
