Some places have a soul, an extra spark.
After meandering up the mountain road, leaving the dramatic valley of Rjukan below, the plateau unfolds with Gaustatoppen rising above.
Following several days of rain, a sunny autumn day brought me to Djupetjønn lake. After one hour of hiking uphill, I finally arrived at this beautiful natural spot. It was not my first time there since I explored the surrounding mountains, almost daily, for ten months. The weather conditions were optimal on that afternoon.
I composed this image by having in mind the symmetry and harmony of the elements: rocky mountains covered by lichen, orangish autumnal flora, and a pristine water lake reflecting a clear sky.
"When two mountains meet at Djupetjønn lake" is part of GAUSTA IN SEASONS: an award-winning project that has documented this world-class mountain Norwegian destination, from December 2019 to September 2020.
This picture has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2020 Tokyo International Foto Awards [TIFA].
