Christian VIDAL is a French painter who has long participated in international exhibitions - most notably in Morocco. Although of classical training, the artist has evolved his pictorial practice towards a figurative abstraction marked by serenity and poetry.
What inspires you?
My inspiration, although essentially figurative, sometimes lets itself be drawn along the paths of abstract suggestion, which, with greater freedom of tone and movement, invites me to explore the range of pictorial possibilities while mobilising the diversity of contemporary graphic resources, in a vision that is both serene and poetic
Describe your creative process.
I paint ideas, views of the mind where the poetry of the real is distanced, evoked in an underlying way, in a semi-figurative expression. Thus, far from being an anecdotal evidence, the title given to the work asserts itself as the driving principle of its genesis and sometimes delivers a track for its immediate understanding. But it is up to the public to apprehend the work of the artist through the prism of his own imagination, rich most often of harmonics as subtle as unsuspected...

Mainly cubist artists like Picasso, Juan Gris, but also painters Nabi or Fauves like André Derain
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
Chardin used to say he painted with feelings. I make this requirement my own.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
The Greek poet Pindare writes: "Become what you are." I strive to apply this precept with humility.
Where do you go for inspiration?
I go to the contact of nature or to meet others artists for an always enriching exchange.
