Laure Polin is a French sculptor who has exhibited her work internationally. Using a variety of materials including plaster, slate, and bronze, She slowly carves away at her material until a shape or figure reveals itself. Her works are abstract and figurative pieces that are both graceful and commanding.
The sculpture leads her into research territories where she will find the path that will materialize this flow that goes through her by modeling the material.
What inspires you?
Amidst a multitude of mysteries, I constantly try to reveal THE form. The one I was wearing without my knowing it? The one that was buried in matter? ... it doesn't matter, it will be the one that will emerge from all my sensations in the present moment. The significant and symbolic forms revealed by my desire will then calligraphy the material.
Describe your creative process.
My sculpture belongs to the domain of discovery. When I sculpt, whether in direct carving on slate or in plaster to give birth to the bronzes, I am not trying to illustrate a pre-established.In the beginning, there is indecision. I am looking for a trace, an imprint, a memory in matter, a clue I build a shape that makes me recognize the feeling I'm wearing. I cut, I sand, I shake up the material, then something occurs; sometimes a tiny detail, like an echo or on the contrary like a call. So,I recognize the beginning of a soul
