The year 2024 has been a remarkable one for us at the Artling. We curated awe-inspiring corporate and hospitality collections, and made significant strides in developing our offerings with our Trade Program. Throughout the year, we continued to grow our online gallery, adding more inspiring artists and artworks and elevating the art sourcing experience for designers and collectors alike.

Of particular note is the revealing of two of our projects to the public: the monumental commissioned sculpture ASTRA located at NOVA bar atop One Raffles Place, and the charming heritage hotel, 21 Carpenter. We also curated captivating works for the guestrooms for the launch of Conrad Singapore Orchard, the progressive East47 cocktail bar, our very first project in Western Australia, Wayfinder Wines, and the Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant, Shisen Hanten by Chen Kentaro.

We are also incredibly proud of our work in seamlessly integrating a collection of existing collection works alongside new contemporary art pieces into the office space of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s highest office holders. The collection not only enhanced the space, but celebrated Singapore’s cultural heritage and future.

Let us take you on a look back at 2024, a year where we shaped so many memorable spaces with the power and beauty of art.

Key Projects and Events

Collaboration with Singapore Design Week 2024

EMERGE @ FIND was held at Marina Bay Sands from 26 to 28 September 2024.

For the first time, The Artling partnered with EMERGE @ FIND during Singapore Design Week (SDW), creating new opportunities for Southeast Asian designers. In its third edition, the showcase featured over 60 designers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Their innovative designs were made available for sale on The Artling’s platform, connecting them to an extensive network of buyers and collectors, thereby enhancing their commercialization prospects.

Also held during SDW was Future Impact 2: Homecoming Showcase, where the works of seven visionary Singaporean designers were exhibited at the Asian Civilisations Museum. Designers Christian+Jade, David Lee, Faezah Shaharuddin, Gabriel Tan, Genevieve Ang, Clement Zheng, Tiffany Loy, and Zavier Wong highlighted sustainable design's potential through innovative creations that address global challenges, reduce environmental impact, and reimagine production methods.

Conrad Singapore Orchard

The first in the list of 2024 hospitality projects is the Conrad Singapore Orchard, where The Artling worked alongside interior designers Unscripted Design for the guestrooms and MSDO for the public areas. The team drew inspiration from the country’s garden city environment, and curated an art collection that blends tropical imagery and urban resort aesthetics.

Our team members selected works by local and international artists, including prints and photography, that are prominently displayed in the 12 cascading floors of guestrooms, meeting spaces, restaurants and bars. The legacy of architect John Portman’s original design is complemented by art pieces that celebrate Singapore’s rich botanical heritage.

East47, Manhattan Bar

Tucked within the award-winning Manhattan Bar at Conrad Singapore Orchard is East47, a progressive cocktail studio inspired by New York City and its vibrant culture. Paying homage to the iconic American artist Andy Warhol, the bar recreates the ambiance of his legendary Silver Factory on East 47th Street. This exclusive, by-invite-only space evokes the glamour of 1960s extravagant parties, featuring artworks curated by The Artling, including pieces by Warhol and emerging artist Alana Dee Haynes.

Wayfinder Wines

Our next highlight marks The Artling's very first project in Western Australia. We were commissioned to source and curate an Australian artwork collection for Wayfinder Wines, a new cellar door in Dunsborough, designed by Kerry Hill Architects.

The collection features a wide range of media and natural hues, textures, and materials that complement the urban space. A standout piece is Feedback by Georgia Bisley, a colourful, striking hand-crafted wool and hand-dyed linen textured artwork.

Inspired by an explorative native vine, Wayfinder Wines embodies a commitment to working harmoniously with nature, reflecting its ethos of reducing harm and fostering ecological balance.

21 Carpenter

Although The Artling team completed the curation of the artworks for this project in 2023, the historic hotel, 21 Carpenter, had its official opening in 2024. The collection comprised a diverse range of mediums from established and emerging local artists, including an epic tapestry by Heman Chong, a hand-drawn charcoal mural by Dawn Ang of Aeropalmics, and acrylic paper pulp pieces by Suzann Victor. Artists Ruben Pang, Jamie Teo, Aarti Bartake and Soph O’s works also enrich the hotel’s artistic atmosphere.

ASTRA at NOVA

A stellar installation sculpture by Jun Ong at NOVA bar, on the roof of One Raffles Place.

Another project that was unveiled this year to the public was the dynamic star-shaped sculpture ASTRA by Kuala Lumpur-based artist Jun Ong. Located in the trendy NOVA bar on top of One Raffles Place in Singapore’s central business district, this spectacular installation is our largest by far, taking a year of careful coordination in making sure this masterpiece was installed to plan.

Shisen Hanten by Chen Kentaro

Another highlighted project of the year is Shisen Hanten's art collection, reflecting the Michelin-starred restaurant's fusion of Chinese and Japanese fine dining. Curated works by established and emerging artists celebrate the rich heritage of Chuka Ryori Szechwan cuisine, with their contemporary sophistication offering diners an immersive experience that intertwines art and cuisine.

Dynamic works by Chinese and Japanese artists include Yuefeng He's sculptural Bamboo Rock at Level 35 and suspended installations by Yasuaki Onishi and Beili Liu at Level 34, alongside unique ceramic wares in the main dining area. Private dining rooms showcase an intimate selection of wall-hung artworks, balancing bold and gentle themes to enhance the culinary experience. Artists featured include Nana Funo, Kyoko Kumai, Yuko Nishimura, and Kiyo Hasegawa, among others.

Monetary Authority of Singapore

River of Flowing Histories by Suzann Victor at the office space of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

One of The Artling’s key projects in 2024 was collaborating closely with designers and branding specialists &Larry to revamp the office space on the 29th floor of Singapore’s central bank, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). The Artling curated artworks that followed the project’s vision - to blend tradition and innovation.

Our team worked with renowned local artists such as Aaron Gan, Hong Sek Chern, Suzann Victor, Wyn-Lyn Tan, and Zen Teh for commissioned pieces that would add to MAS’s existing collection. This integration of new and existing artworks reflects MAS's commitment to supporting local arts, honoring the past, and embracing the future.

The Artling team made sure that there was a diverse selection of mediums, from ink paintings to mixed media and sculptures to create a dynamic and inspiring environment for both the visitors and staff.

Launch of New Trade Tools

This year we’ve given our Trade Program tools an upgrade, streamlining the art sourcing process for industry professionals. A key enhancement is the implementation of our proprietary AI-powered discovery tool, which makes sourcing for the perfect art pieces easier and with greater accuracy.

Our one-stop trade platform was created with interior designers, architects and property developers in mind, so there’s no need to navigate other sites while working on projects. Within a single dashboard, users can manage, create and keep track of projects, while the built-in visualization tools enable them to preview artworks in any space. We’ve also made requesting for quotes and creating catalogues easy with just a few simple clicks.
