Country: Singapore

SPOT ART is a premier platform that puts an in-depth survey of the diverse art scenes in Southeast Asia on the global contemporary art map through an annual competition and exhibition. Each edition brings the finest contemporary art created by artists under the age of 30 together with renowned curators and collectors in a winning and dynamic way.

As a nonprofit collaborating with a robust network of top art universities and institutions throughout the region, SPOT ART is able to offer an engaging and thorough survey of emerging works driven by the premise that education and curatorial rigor enable excellence and sustainability. Their open call engages graduates and associates of premier art universities with a demanding selection process by distinguished art experts to ensure each annual edition showcases works of the highest standard. The result is a high quality exhibition that strengthens relationships between artists, communities, institutions, collectors and arts professionals in Southeast Asia.

The selected artists’ work demonstrates a broad variety of artistic processes and practices ranging from exploration in color and form, to examinations of ecological, geopolitical and sociological interests, to meditations on cultural heritage, gender and generational identifications. The artists work in a diversity of disciplines including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, video, performance, and installation.

It is the mission of SPOT ART to broaden the profile of young artists of exceptional talent who have limited exposure in the global art arena. Currently based in Singapore, SPOT ART is an uncompromising platform from which top young artists can take the first (or next) step in their careers, as well as a single spot where patrons and collectors alike can experience a highly selective collection of multifaceted works from an often fragmented art scene in Southeast Asia.

Sponsored by the ASEAN Foundation and the Japan – ASEAN Solidarity Fund, and with support from the National Arts Council and the Singapore Tourism Board, SPOT ART will open it’s doors to the public for it’s Second Edition at Singapore’s landmark ARTrium@MCI Building from 21 - 25 November, 2014.
