About the art
Artist statement
A collection of original, vintage postage stamps altered with a light coating of paint and arranged around a strip of wood. The work is mounted behind conservation glass within a dark brown, wooden frame.
Collected from a variety of sources, these Queen Elizabeth II stamps have been laid out in a geometric pattern forming the shape of a globe. The thin, textured layer of white paint acts to reduce the vibrancy of the stamp colours en masse and also creates a veil-like effect. This is sharply contrasted with the gloss of the painted wood strip.
Evoking a sense of nostalgia, this work references a bygone era when mail was the primary form of correspondence.
Listed size includes the frame.
