We can barely believe it’s the end of 2021 already! Despite continued challenges with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased to have continued to be able to provide artists and designers with a platform to share their works with the world, and for our customers to discover new and exciting artists. We worked with some great clients this year, to complete monumental-scale projects along with corporate offices and residential projects across the globe.
Key Projects & Events
The Artling's Creative Studio at Straits Clan
The Creative Studio was launched as part of the Straits Clan Arts Programme, which aims to develop the club’s cultural capital and cement the space as a venue that enables and encourages lively dialogue between its members and the creative community. Co-managed by Straits Clan and The Artling, the programme has provided the four up-and-coming local creatives with a much-needed platform in Singapore during a challenging time, where space to create is vital yet scarce. The artists have used the residency period to develop new bodies of work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, inspired by the heritage building of Straits Clan.
The artists involved were Aeropalmics, André Wee, Masuri Mazlan, and Tiffany Loy. To celebrate the conclusion of its inaugural four-month residency, Straits Clan and The Artling presented Creative Studio: The Closing Exhibition, featuring a collection of new works developed by the four local artists throughout the course of the residency.
Appointed Art Consultant for Mondrian Duxton Singapore
The Artling was appointed as the art consultant for the Mondrian Hotel, Singapore, launching in 2023. We are working with the client, Accor hotels and the interior designers Studio Carter to create an artwork collection befitting the launch of this international, contemporary hotel brand in the region.
The Mirazur Art Collection
The Artling was brought on board to manage the art programme throughout the various spaces for the 3-month Mirazur residency. The selected artworks will form part of the narrative of the menu, which will change seasonally, and the transformed space will transport guests into another universe. The collection features some of the most prominent and exciting names in the Singapore art scene, including photography lightboxes by Robert Zhao, charcoal drawings by Jimmy Ong, a sculptural piece from Grace Tan and a video installation by Yanyun Chen and Alex Scollay. Other spaces also feature a mixed-media work by Filippo Sciascia, as well as a moonscape-like acrylic and screenprint piece by Genevieve Chua.
Sourcing for Capella Singapore
The Artling was appointed as the art consultant to give Capella Singapore a fresh new look. We worked with a local artist to create a commissioned piece for the Bedroom Villas. The artist created the work centered around themes of summer and nature, inspired by the lush vibrant gardens Capella has to offer.
Completion of Lobby Sculpture for Karl Lagerfeld Hotel Macau
The Artling worked with a world-renowned artist to create a site-specific suspended installation for the Karl Lagerfeld Hotel in Macau, one of the famed fashion designer’s final projects.
Completion of Patina, Maldives
The inaugural flagship property, Patina Maldives, Fari Islands is the latest hospitality concept by Capella Hotel Group. Esteemed for its sustainable ethos, the elevated Maldivian island destination drives the connection between Tomorrow’s travellers and nature; celebrating wellness and empowering communities.
As the official art consultant of Patina Maldives, The Artling worked closely alongside architects, Brazilian firm Studio MK27, and landscape architects VDLA, as we sought to curate and design a holistic collection of artwork, consisting of bespoke commissioned artworks and unique design pieces by international artists. Works by Hiroko Takeda, Cassio Vasconcellos, Hongjie Yang, Jose Davila and FAHR 021.3, are interspersed across the island and in the 110 exquisite Villas and Studios offered by the resort.
Completion of The Ritz-Carlton, Maldives
For the Ritz Carlton Maldives, The Artling is thrilled to have created an artwork collection that reflects the serene surroundings of the resort designed by architecture firm Kerry Hill Architects and landscape designer VDLA. We worked on creating site-specific artworks for all 100 villas of the five-star resort, along with outdoor sculptures and accessories for the F&B spaces and public areas.
Collaboration with Dawn Ng for 'Small Things'
The Artling is pleased to have launched the SPRING and FALL collection of 'small things' by Singaporean contemporary artist, Dawn Ng. 'Small Things' is a series of a family of paper vessels that have been uniquely hand-made in a soft kaleidoscope of shapes and shades. This is the artist's first forray into the realm of design and is one which demonstrates Dawn’s keen sense of materiality and attention to the rawness and irregularity of the handmade object.
Both exclusions were exclusive to The Artling.

Opening of 'Parallel Universes: Parafacts And Parafictions' in Shanghai
The Artling proudly opened its latest exhibition ‘Parallel Universes: Parafacts and Parafictions’ in Shanghai on 10 November. ‘Parallel Universes: Parafacts and Parafictions’ transforms the building’s colonial architecture into a platform that stages a heightened experience that brings the community together, exploring the dynamics between different genres and mediums. In understanding and reinterpreting the world around us, the participating artists present their visions through fictional readings of reality.
The full artist lineup includes Aspartime, Carlos Sebastia and Jane Pickersgill, Ce Jian, Chen Xiaoyi, Chen Zhe, Gao Lei, Hu Weiyi, Joey Xia, John Monteith, Li Jinghu, Li Tao, Pu Yingwei, Ren Bo, Yang Guangnan, and Zhang Miao. For the installation images of the exhibition, click here.
